Rise of the Runelords
If you see Messi in Sandpoint, you may notice his changing appearance, if you even notice him at all. Elves are not that common in Sandpoint, there is no defined elven community in the city. That said, they are not so rare as to provoke surprise or amazement when encountered. His size, apparel, or demeanor do not otherwise make him stand out.
If you see him coming into the city by the northeast bridge, he would be in leather armor, longsword at his hip, longbow on his back. More noteworthy would be the bundle of animal pelts on his back as he brings them in to Larz Rovanky’s tannery. As he turns to enter the smelly tanning works, you note several leghold traps dangling from his pack.
If you see him coming into the city by the southeast bridge, he would again be in leather armor, longsword at his hip, longbow on his back. This time you would note the bundle of skinned animal carcasses on his back or hanging from his shoulders as he brings them in to Chod Bevuk’s meat market. Perhaps even a haunch of venison, Chod sells wild game as well as farmed animals. As he turns to enter the market, you would again note several leghold traps dangling from his pack.
You may also espy him entering or leaving the Goblin Squash Stables. If he is leaving the stables headed east out of town, he’ll be in armor and fully armed, backpack filled with salt and other supplies. If he is leaving the stables for other points in the city, he may or may not be in his armor and may or may not have his longsword. But, you’ll never see him carry a bow or quiver to go about the city.
If you choose to go slumming, you might also notice him in or near the Fatman’s Feedbag on some evenings, often lasting into the wee hours. He sits in the rear, where he can likely see everyone in the place. He is a quiet patron, visiting some with patrons who stop by his table, but never the life of any party, never buying a round for the house.
The only other times you might see him around the city, he would be dressed in street clothes, worn but not ragged, unremarkable in any way. At these times he would not be wearing armor and wouldn’t have any visible weapons. He may be carrying a toolbox, though. And, you might see him entering or leaving Volioker Briskalberd’s locksmith shop.
